So this is what I need help with, I want the following to be breeding tanks for my fish room I will be starting in January.

55gal,Want a fish that I can leave the fry with the parents without getting eaten.

10gal- Thinking some sort of crayfish?

5.5gal- Some shrimp?

I am going to be getting more tanks but I don't want to put any money into this except for the fish/shrimp/crayfish, then from what I sell I will reinvest. These tanks are all set up with filters, heaters and everything, except i need sand for the 10 and 5.5gal

you MIGHT be able to do gumpies in the 10 gallon, they bred VERY quickly and you can even use the fry to occasionally fed whatever you put in the bigger tank...

you could do a pair or harem of a small to mid size cichlid in the 55. As long as you prevent the parents from spawning again after they breed you should be safe for at least a few weeks where you could grow them out in that 10, supposing that you can live without the crayfish.
