I know a 29 gallon is not exactly a monster tank LOL although I have a spare one that has been empty for over a year and I do not know what to put in it. I hate tetra, barbs and so on so please don't suggest that lol.... I want something cool that isn't very big and could thrive in a 29 for life. Obvioulsy filtration will be stacked, and water changes will be done weekly. any ideas???

Predator? Odd community? Breeders?
How about top pike minnows or pikeheads? Leopard ctenopoma? Nandus nandus? Some of the smaller Barilius or riaimus species. Some of the natives such as pairs of bluespotted or blackbanded sunnies, orange spotted sunfish? Maybe a whole colony of African Dwarf shell dwelling cichlids, some german rams, or cockatoo cichlids?
Lots of choices.

ummm I like the odd community or predator??? what predator can fit in a 29 gallon???

if i had a 29 lying aroun id do an african set up, with a small mormrid sp, or an african brown knife, and african butterfly, and your favorite ctenopoma species. the stock would look something like this:

1 Mormyrid Sp.
OR
1 Xenomystus Nigri
AND
2 Ctenopoma Sp.
1 Pantadon Bochholzi

BTW, thats what i suggest to every one :headbang2

There are several smallish, fairly predatory fish that mature in the right size range fot a 29G, say 5-8" long. Orange spotted sunfish and dollar sunfish are two natives and there are several even smaller ones that stay 3 1/2"-4", also the tule perch. Then there are the non-natives that vary in availability and price such as pike-topminnows, pikeheads, nandus, leopard ctenopomas, and some of the barilius species like gatensis or canarensis, or the australian Mouth almighty. Also the wimple's piranha. here are a few pics.
