I just pick up this 40G Hex Tall Tank, what kind of fish should go with it?

Your options are limited. This is why I hate hex tanks. Angels can work there due to their tall body structure.

agreed. not many angels though, maybe 2 tops, though this may not even be appropriate depending on tank dimensions. maybe a couple dwarf gouramis, again options are limited because of the shape of the tank and the depth.
or you could go brackish and just get a little puffer.

I'd think I am going to stick all my 1" frontosa fry (about 20) as a grow out till they reach 3-4"
