Sometimes this hobby just grabs back on to you... I've had my 75G running about a year after a hiatus in the hobby and it's time to add a second tank to the mix again.
I've worked out how to move things around in the living room to keep the ol' lady happy and she's excited for another tank now, only stipulation being a furniture quality stand and a canister filter to avoid the HOB noise. Done and Done.
I've always gravitated towards predator fish, I've kept a lot of SA cichlids, tried the African cichlid thing (wasn't for me, too much constant bickering between the fish) and have had quite a few oddballs over the years (bichirs have always been my favorites) - However I've never kept a true community tank in over a decade in the hobby. I think it's time to give in and try something different.
We added some angels to the mix a while back and I've narrowed it down to 2 females in my 75 that get along well enough to not hurt each other, the blacked out male however (her favorite naturally) caused too much fighting between the females so he was removed and put in to the growout 20L with my 2nd Delhezi - so that's the only fish that will for sure go in to this setup.
I will likely end up with enough room for a 4' tank, but prefer the footprint of a 40B for aquascaping purposes. Will end up going heavy driftwood/planted with some rocks for hardscaping.
I'm used to doing heavy water changes for messy fish.. does this sound like a realistic stocking list at 50% weekly WC and heavy plants:
If 40B:
Sterbai Cory x6
Pearl Gourami x3
Angelfish x1 (centerpiece, only non-negotiable piece)
Otocinclus x3
Rummynose x8
Cardinal Tetra x8
If 55:
Sterbai Cory x6
Adolfo Cory x6
Kribensis Pair
Pearl Gourami x3
Angelfish x1
Otocinclus x3
Rummynose x12
Cardinal x12
Always fun to speculate. I don't think I want to go with another 75 because of where the tank will sit near a hallway (don't want it to stick out) - suggestions appreciated!
Before getting whichever tank up to anywhere near these levels I may use it as a growout for a pair of Keyhole cichlids until they get big enough to go in the 75 as well
