I've recently been given a super strange strange tank. It measures 30Lx34hx18w. Can anyone suggest any stocking ideas for this tank? I think it could be a great looking tank but I feel my stock would be limited due to the 30x18 footprint. All suggestions welcome!

I know you put this in the cichlid forum but how about a planted discus tank? I've always wanted to try one and those tall tanks would be good for that.

I actually seriously have been considering this. I already have a full co2 setup collecting dust in my garage. How many discus could this footprint handle?

I don't know much about them as I've never had them but the basics are keep in groups and 1 per 10 gallons. Your tanks works out to be 80 gallons so I'd start with 8.

I would think around 4ish? but I think it would be beautiful as a planted discus tank. that's what I would do with a tank that size for sure

Planted Discus sounds awesome for that size tank. I have never seen anything like that, it would be really unique.

And actually, if you do decide to go with discus, this forum is still perfect, since discus are SA cichlids! I think that tank would look awesome!

I agree with four. Also if the OP would like to he could have a group of corys as wellas well

I don't think you'll have good luck long term with discus in a thank with that footprint. They are cichlids, and your tank doesn't have a lot of space for adults.

I agree. You ideally want a tall tank for Discus but that footprint is too small. You could do a group of 5 Pterophyllum leopoldi and about 6 corys of some type at the bottom anything on the smaller side along with a small group of Serpae sized tetras.
