Hello,
I have a tall 55gallon aquarium (25inch tall x 28inch wide x 20inch front to back)
And im looking for stocking ideas. (Preferably 1bigger cichlid or 2 cichlids
I know this is an annoying question. You find lots of info on the internet.
But i cant seem to find stocking ideas for my type of 55 gallon.
Most say dont put bigger cichlids in a 55 cuz they cant turn. But my aquarium isnt that narrow.
Anyway, i was thinking 1oscar or 2 green terrors.
What can you guys suggest?

A 55 is a very small tank when considering it for new world cichlids. Narrow or not has nothing to do with anything.
Its about territory, and the ability to maintain water quality in a small space.
To me, its only large enough for a cichlid that tops out at 5.5".
It would be a nice size tank for some S American dwarf, or semi dwarf cichlids.

Green terror and Oscar both have potential to hit a foot long, a tank barely bigger than 2 feet long isn’t really enough to keep it in.
Might I recommend convict cichlids? Very common but full of personality. Their relatives like rainbow cichlids, nanolutae, and Honduran red point are also good fits and much more colorful.
Any of the dwarf cichlids are also a good fit. Dwarf acaras are a close cousin to green terrors and would exhibit similar behavior and appearance.

So your talking about apistos and ramirezi? I have 2pair in other aquariums ;)
Im looking for a little bigger. And the green terror just looked cool. And if you look it up they say for 1fish a 55 should be enough?
Sorry, im just a little dissapointed.
Water quality shouldnt be an issue tho. I do my maintenance

If you look it up they rarely get past 8inch in the aquarium?
In the wild they can get up to 12 inch.
Idk the internet just does not make sense from time to time.

Your tank is just almost 2ft * 2ft * 2.5ft .
These dimensions are better suited for dwarf cichlids or best if you could keep a community of small fish . A planted tank of such dimensions would also be cool.
If you're looking for a mid sized cichlid. I'll maybe recommend a blue acara or maybe a rainbow cichlid.

Personally I’d say a 75 is more suited for a green terror.
The 55 mentioned online is the standard 4x1x2 feet. Only having 2 feet in any direction is not ideal for a large and active fish. It offers no more swimming room than a 20 gallon, despite water diffusion being so comparatively high.
This is less of a water quality issue than it is simply a swimming room one. Unfortunately, no cichlid that gets over 4-5 inches will be comfortable in the tank.

I wouldn't dream of keeping green terrors on that tank. They are large and energetic fish as well as territorial. If you had a pair the female would get battered.
I would suggest something like a pair of keyholes if you want something bigger than apistos. A pair of nannocara idoketa would be nice if you wanted something not so common. Even then I think the footprint is a bit tight.
A harem of apistos or Bolivian rams would be ideal.
