Looking for some stocking ideas for a 48x18x24h 90 gallon acrylic tank I just picked up today. I want to do Central or South American Cichlids that can live long term in this tank. I don't mind a single species tank and starting out with 8-10 juveniles and growing them out to get a breeding pair and eventually getting a growout tank also. Some fish I initially thought about were:

Green Terrors
Cuban Cichlids
Texas Cichlids

These are fish I've seen around in my local fish stores, but I wanted maybe some more ideas from this great community. I'm experienced in keeping GTs (only had them until about 6"), Trimacs, Hogas, Electric blue acaras. Just wanted to see if anyone had some good ideas for a 48x18 footprint, something that eventually gets 10-12+ inches preferably.

Maybe try some sort of vieja, like a synsipilum or black belt

To me a 4 ft 90 is too small for any Vieja, especially a pair of maculicauda (they can be highly aggressive), the larger footprint of at least a 6 ft tank is more in line for Vieja long term (but bigger is vastly better).
I do think you may be OK with Green Terrors or Cubans, using the technique of growing juvies out together to end up with a compatible pair.
Texas cichlids might be pushing the envelope at full adult size, unless you are thinking 1 large wet pet.
I have kept all the above mentioned cichlids, including most Vieja, and find a 4 ft tank too limiting for most except the two smaller ones.(GT and Cuban)
If you were to select Andinoacara, your ability to use dither fish as options is possible.
The tetracanthus will kill and eat anything, even those to big to easily swallow.

Yeah I would go with a Cuban cichlid pair or grammodes cichlid pair. Both good looking fish and are very personable.
