Just joined onto this forum since I've been wanting to keep big fish. I got a great deal on a 90 gallon with everything except for filtration for 500. Looking for some stocking advise for it. I'd currently like to keep a Green Terror, a Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, a Firemouth, and a Red Tailed Shark. I'm very new to cichlids so I'm not sure if this tank will be enough for all their territories hence why I'm making this thread. Is this a good stocking? Any other suggestions on what I should put in it?

I plan to put an fx6 on it btw but if I need more filtration I'm fine with spending some extra money

Welcome abroad!

This is what it looks like on AqAdvisor: https://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisor.php...AqSpeciesWindowSize=short&AqSearchMode=simple

Looks like you may have to keep an eye out for aggressions, but don't appear to be overloaded on space.

Additionally, 1 firemouth may not be enough, I am not a cichlid keeper but I believe I have read from Gourami Swami Gourami Swami that they do well in groups.

FX6 is 200% filtration according to AqAdvisor, seems like it will be plenty.

Thank you for the response! If any aggression happens I'll just return it to the store if I can. If I replaced the Dempsey with an Oscar would I still have a manageable tank?

In terms of space, it's possible. But not in terms of water quality, you would very likely run into hole in the head in that size tank because it would not be large enough to dilute waste.

Something to save for a bigger tank then. Would I be able to let's say replace the firemouth with another 12 inch cichlid like a Texas? Sorry for so many questions do not want to screw up this tank and end up wasting money

Oscar would be less manageable. They aren’t as mean, but get bigger and produce more waste.
EBJD max out around 6 inches, and often die prematurely due to heavy inbreeding, but is a rather peaceful cichlid (for a cichlid). It would be fine with the fm. Fm do best in groups but it is not necessary for their survival. Green terror and the shark will be the meanest ones.
Gonna be tight on bioload and space but not impossible to manage, a strong water change routine will help (filters aren’t everything), and lots of available territory.

Texas will be meaner than a firemouth, so same idea - best to stay with smaller guys.
Ideally a 90 shouldn’t have any bigger than a 9 inch cichlid (give or take), it’s fine for a full grown green terror imo.

I'll wait for the cichlid experts to weigh in, like I said I do not keep them. Deadeye's advice may or may not be agreed on by them, for example.

Understood thank you. Like I said I'm probably dropping the Oscar. Might drop the fm too and opt for a regular jd. I think I'll be fine on the water changes. I routinely change 50 percent of the water every week on all my tanks. I'll be sure to add the terror and shark last
