I am about to buy a 155 gallon aquarium stand and light for $300 off Facebook marketplace. I would like to keep probably an endli bichir and a delhizi or dinosaur bichir (2 total bichirs) and im wondering what other ideas you guys have that I could stock it with. An arowana would be sick but obviously 155 gallons isn't big enough for an Aro for life so yeah just lmk what y'all think

Personally I'd go for a Carpintis and couple bichir, then see what else I could put in, maybe a couple synodontis or pictus cats, I've wanted a Carpintis for some time but don't have the tank space open. You could do a couple of oscars, or other SA/CA cichlids. Or an african cichlid tank, which requires much different water chemistry, Whats your source water like?

Yeah, most of us use tap water too but if you have particularly low or high ph it could lead you away from certain fish and towards others that thrive in that water.

oh ok, im not sure what the pH of my tap water is, I think around 7 though. I like oddball fish so any type of oddball recommedations are appreciated

I would 100% get the PH checked.

One of my dream set-ups is a 180 with one of the fancy pike cichlids, true parrot cichlid, threadfin acara, a fire eel, and an irwini catfish. I like this set-up because everyone is big with interesting colors/patterns, plus you don't see these species kept all that often which appeals to me. This set-up is also more of a crowd pleaser, I know my family would protest if I put a massive tank in the house only to fill it with fat silver, grey, and brown fish.

If you have hard water then malawi haps or the more standard CA cichlids+Bichir+some kind of catfish set-up a lot of people have works too.

thanks for the advice! i’ll get my ph tested soon. i was considering a pike cichlid, but idk if they’re compatible with many other fish. and irwinis are super cool, but are you sure an irwini can be in a 150-180? they get like 35” as far as ik
