any ideas on more suitable or other "cool" potential tank mates

but my 400gal tank has a 480 gallons an hour submersible "little giants" pump pumping into a bucket filled with "dacron" as the filter media (they use dacron to stuff pillows on boats) a few holes in the bucket to provide more aeration and thats my filter system im beggining to wonder if it is adequate never did any kind of water quality tests should i be worried or hould i be upgrading the filter system????
help. someone suggested a powerhead looked into it and realized it is a fabulous idea however does anyone in trinidad know where to get one??

480 gal/h for a 400 gal doesn't sound right. I think you should aim for at least 3 or 4 times the volume of your tank per hour, the more the better. As for media well, that depends entirely on you... normally sumps have some kind of media with lots of surface area for bb to attach to. I use purigen, matrix, bio-max, bio balls, several different kinds of sponges and sometimes activated carbon and clearmax when needed.

I use 3 powerheads to add circulation, it's nice for big tanks. Also an overflow box does a great job as a surface skimmer, you can add one to your setup for little money.

some vieja and a bass would be nice, only if filteration is increased. ^^^i agree

umm idk where to get pbass in trini i've been lookin for a while but guess its important u all kno tht my tank i a cylingrical tank 4 1/2 ft tall 4 1/2 ft diameter so there isnt a whole lot of "dead" water but i definiely will increase the fitration and am lookin to get a pwrhead but any "unusual" or "cool" fish tht would be good with my fish any ideas??

I have read a lot on here about filtration and I think a lotof people over do. I have a 300 gallonplywood tank. That has been up andrunning for about a year now. I have onsilver arrowana about 15 inches, onelarge Oscar, 2 clown loaches, 5 large AfricanCichilds, one large parrott fish. I havea 500 gallon pond filter I bought from Lowes

That I clean about once a month. I ran ¼ water line to the tank hooked up ainline fridge filter from Lowes that I attached a drip admitter to. Next I drilled a 3/8 water drain line where Iwanted the water line to be I also added a air wand. Water stays crystal clear I never do waterchanges at all. The arrow has doubled insize and almost no work on my part. It reallydoesn’t take that much
