Hi, Ive decided to move in a new direction with my tank. I was currently keeping large predetory fish, Peacock Bass. Ive kept many different types of fish over the past 20yrs but never Discus so here I go :)

The tank is 84x30x24" (h) .... so loads of room, Filtration: 2 x FX5's. The substrate will be silica sand (only 5-10mm deep), I have also bought a huge 3x2' peice of bogwood, plants will be plastic for the time being.

So my stocking idea will be:

- 8 Discus (or 6 Discus and 4 Altum Angels)
- 15 Bleeding Heart Tetra
- 10 Silver Hatchets
- 5 Marble Hatchets
- 10 Mixed Corydoras
- 4-5 Flagtail Catfish
- 2 pairs Dwarf Cichlid
- 4 Geophagus Tapajos (or a pair of Threadfin Acara or Festivum Cichlids)
- 4-5 Marble Headstanders
- 1 Stripped Headstander
- 4 Plecos (undecided on sp's)

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Jay

sounds awesome. I assume your going with adult discus. wilds would be perfect with that stock. just so you know, most pleco's get lazy and learn that it's easier to eat the food being put in than the algae. there are also crap machines. I had one bn in my 120 and got rid of it. could'nt believe the difference in what I had to vacuum.

Nice one Im probably going to get all young fish I like watching them grow :)

I know what you mean about Plecs Ive kept a few in the past, poop machines lol. Most likely get some smaller types, Bristle nose etc
Thanks for the heads up though

Not a good idea with young discus in a tank that big and all the other fish....they will never get enough to eat and become stunted and badly shaped. You also won't want to be doing 50% water changes bi weekly with that volume in order to ideally grow them. Better off getting some adults discus, it'll save you money and time in the long run.

Maybe throw in some roseline shark. I really like the geo's. Have some my red head myself. Pic when u get it setup. Gonna be nice!

Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

Going for an Amazon setup so no Roselines. Thanks anyway

The Discus will most likely be first in the tank with a few Corys so feeding will not be an issue. The filters are mature and at the moment there is still a 17" Vulture cat cruising around in there. Should be gone this wk.
My parameters are Temp: 26oc (this will be raised to 28) pH: 6.8, Am: 0 Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 20.
I will feed 3x a day a mixture of brine, mysis shrimp, bloodworm and hikari discus bio gold.

Thanks for your comments

I would rethink your diet and tank size if you want to grow discus. You should specify what size you are thinking about for others to help you properly.

Diet? Looks ok to me. Will probably get fish around 3-4"
