Upgrading to a 240 cube soon from a 75g. Looking for some input on stocking. Currently I have a volitan, and a blueline grouper. Volitan probably wont make it to the upgrade, he just spits oout his food for the last month, but thats a different issue for a diff thread. Anyways, I want to add some movement to the new tank. I was thinking maybe adding a raccoon butterfly, tang of somesorts, h.tusk, and a couple other fish. Not sure what would work with a volitan and grouper or just a grouper. hes a mean sob, haha hes def going to go in last when the upgrade commences. Let me know what you think of my ideas, or what you would add with the current stock.

hmmm I was thinking of an eel of somekind. I like the tesslata but think they get too big for my setup. Though I would have to make a lid and figure figure out how to secure it if I did get an eel.

I think that your stocking options are going to be limited to fishes that the grouper can't take down, so more predators are in order.

I agree that an eel would look pretty cool in there, but you are going to need a lid & will need to get one of the thicker yet shorter species to prevent it from becoming grouper food. Triggers are another option, and they're certainly neat fishes to keep.

id go with a trigger large enough to not turn in to a grouper snack personally

How big is the grouper?
If you are keeping the lion then you are limted with triggers. Triggers are notorious for biting the spines of lions. You would have to look at bluejaw/ blue throat, ringens/ sargassum, or crosshatch triggers. Angels and some large wrasses don't make good tankmates for lions either for the same reasons as the triggers.
For eels look at zebra eels they are a good eel beacause they don't eat fish. Snowflake eels are good too but do eat fish, but shouldnt be an issue because you will have to stock with large fish anyways.

I think you got that backwards. Snowflake eels prey heavily on invertebrates rather than fishes as invertebrates are their natural prey. For example, my ~18" snowflake eel doesn't even bother the far smaller damselfishes that it lives with even though it could easily eat them, but it does a number on my dwarf blue leg hermit crabs if I miss a feeding.

Grouper id say is about 7ish or so maybe a lil bigger. Hes already taken out a picasso trigg that I had. Triggers are pretty cool, I would like one, the picasso I had was awesome while he lasted. Id probably try to find a little bigger this time around though. I def would like a harlequin tusk though, I think he would workout in the setup. I am not sure if the lion will make it to the upgrade or not. His tail fin is losing the webbing, and some "spines" that were there, are falling off, but I think I would get another lion again, as thats the main reason I got into tanks was to get one. are all angels notorious for nipping?
