Anyone had much luck stocking multiple Polleni in a 125 with other Africans? I have a pair in there now in the four-to-five inch range. They've not been that aggressive. I had a 10-inch a few years ago that could occasionally be aggressive but not that bad. Just wondering how they would do with another male or female in the same tank if they have plenty of tank mates.

My large male polleni would try to kill any other male polleni in a 150 gal tank, he was also very hard on any females that didn't want to mate with him.

Thanks for the reply. I seem to have a wimpy male. He and the female are still the same size and she actually beats up on him more than he does her. And she is definitely female.

I'm worried a stronger male would kill the one I have now, so I would probably have to move him out. Not sure it's worth it or not, but I think it would be nice to have multiple Polleni in the one tank. Sounds like I might need something bigger than a 125 though. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Don't know if mine is male or female but it's a dik. Never had a fish claim such a large territory. Runs my 210 stocked with Ca Sa cichlids. Had to move my flowerhorn out cuz of abuse. Could only imagine what a pair of them would do.

I have 6 adults (2M, 4F) in a 180G tank with 4 P. grandidieri and a pair of P. oligacanthus. No problem whatsoever. One pair of 'polleni' have spawned 3 or 4 times in the tank, and some of their young have grown up in there too. I presently am holding about 40 - 3-5" young in one tank (bare) and there is no aggression to speak of. I'm sure the crowded condition is the reason. Put a pair in a tank - one will be killed most likely. Keep them in multiples and little problem IME. Also if they grow up together it helps curb aggression. Providing lots of refuges and sight line breaks is a help too. Here's a couple of pics.
