I was thinking of either
3 Firemouths
20 assorted barbs
2 striped raphael catfish
Maybe 2 appistogramma if there is space

or

An african cichlid/ mbuna aquarium. I don't know a lot about the african cichlids and don't know if I need a bigger tank. There are a lot of varieties and they look pretty.

The firemouths are gorgeous and an aquarium would look real nice with odessa barbs and gold barbs.

I would up the number of firemouths to 5 and lower the number of barbs to 6-10 depending on the species. Also I would only do 1 Raphael catfish

Are jewels good with firemouths because the look soooooo good. Also both are only a bit aggressive and can live with big tetras.

You are getting to overstock conditions. Id say if it was a 75 youd be ok. Odessa barbs get 2-3 inches and fire mouths 4-5. Old school fish keeping says 1"/gallon max. It still kinda works but isnt incredibly accurate for many reasons. But for a rule of thumb type situation it helps. So you can have give or take 52" of fish without much problem 5×5=25 10×3=30 add the two together =55 your probably good. Now before I get flammed I said rule of thumb and many more things need to be taken into account. Could you keep more maybe. Could your tank crash and have issues at that lvl of stocking maybe. Rest is up to you and your filtration. And this doesnt account for aggression of any sort or the ability of an animal to get away from others.
