After a brief break from fish keeping, I was able to convince my wife that our living room would look so much better with an aquarium in it.

I got an 8x2x2 Glass Set-Up and ordered my stock from Dan at cichlidsoftheamericas.com. I went a bit overboard but the truth is, quite a few of these will "move-on" one way or another once they have grown out. Here's my list:

Parachromis Dovii 1-1.5" x5
Ex Cichlasoma Grammodes 2"x4
Nandopsis Istlanum "Red" 1"x5
Amphilophus Citrinellum -"Barred Midas"x5
Amphilophus Chancho .75-1"x5
Amphilophus Trimaculatus 1"x5
Vieja Argentea 2”x2
Amphilophus Lyonsi 1.5"x4

As we all know, Dan is an awesome guy and is quite helpful. Pics will follow soon but honestly speaking, they are so small that they aren't much to look at right now.

well the dovii qill kill everyone eventually
so yeah

Out of curiousity... That's a big list of fish, most of which get HUGE. Do you anticipate having enough space for all of them??

I would move out the lyonsi they are not aggressive enough for that setup. Argentea grow really slow. I would move them too.

Let the rest grow out and see what happens. It will be a long while before the dovii challenges the amphs. But when he does. There will be blood shed.

You should be good for 6-8 months or so with this stock and footprint. It will be fun watching them grow. My bet is the trimacs will become the bullies faster than the rest.

what about the grammodes they grow really slow too

I appreciate the opinions. I've been keeping monsters for a while now so I promise to keep an eye on the situation. It seems as though when people look at my list, they jump to the potential size of these fish and that is what a responsible fish keeper does. But right now, these fish look like ants in a tank this large. A tank with competition for food develops a healthy fish.

My premise is this....I do not want a fish someone else grew out. They are particular species that I prefer and those can be found in my stocklist. I will sell-off what won't make it and keep what will stay together in harmony.

Sounds like a good plan! Good luck!!
