Ok here is the deal, I started building a 600 Gallon plywood and Glass aquarium in my basement. The inside Measurments are 8'x4'x2.5' (LxWxH) originally it was for Malawi Cichlids but after looking in these forums more and more I've decided that Having an Arowana tank will be much more satisfying. So my thought was 2 Silver Arowana 2-4 Oscars and 1-2 FW Rays and/or Catfish and a comon pleco I already have thats outgrowing my current 55G. Its going to have a 90 Gallon wet dry filter hooked up to a 3500GPH pump. What would be my best stocking options to get the best community going? The tank is still a month away from being completed so I have lots of time to research.

Here is what I have done as of today.

first i would get a bigger sump than just 90 gallons with that stock list!
second, if you get more filtration I would go a couple black arows, instead of all the oscars I would go with some emperor cichlids so that you can get some africans in, then go with some motoros or otorongos, then catfish wise I would go maybe something in the oxydoris family, a little more friendly towards tank mates than lets say redtail cats and what ever eslse you like. nice tank BTW
:D

Thanks for the compliment on the tank. I should have said this in the beginning but I want to make an amazon biotope out of the tank. So no go on the Africans. I'm going to assume from the start that going Black Arowana means buying online. I did some calling around earlier today and no one that I called has ever had a black in. But I'll also start looking into the two rays and the catfish.

I plan to have the same size tank Which I am hoping will house my 2 silvers and black arowana. For me though this is a couple years away, my black aro needs to gain size on the two silvers.

I do have my two silvers in the same tank, but have been lucky. It seems that you have about a 50/50 chance of just two silvers working out. If you are set on multiple silver/black arowanas, I would go this route, get 5 arowanas in the 12" range growing them out for a few years once they are larger I would look into getting rid of two, with the eventual goal of having 3. Arowanas seem to do quite well in groups.

Good luck with your tank, please post lots of updates. I will need this thread of yours for the summer after next.

1)nice tank over there. :headbang2
2)2 aro = bad idea. :nono:

wanna 2 aro, add other species..tinfoil barb, rays, CK,CL etc..
that reduce territorial and more natural
it should work..and good luck
