I'm in the process of setting up a planted 20 gallon and can't decide what to stock it with

I was thinking a small school of exodons but they are pricy, I've never been a fan of small community fish like tetras

not much that can fit in there that isnt small community fish lol. Maybe dwarf puffers or some small tanganyikans.

pair of rams would be perfect . . . I keep rams in a 15G planted tank, which is similar dimension (just not as tall) and they are thriving

laetacara are also an option

Exodons are to aggressive! even with themself. Puffers in a planted tank I wouldn't do either. There good snail eaters unless you have some you want to keep. They eat shrimps and may even nibble on your plants. Well I would stock it with good algae eaters from the start. SAE Platies and Guppies. Once your tank gets growing good and no algae. You can remove the Platies and Guppies and replace with something else that doesn't eat plants. I would keep some SAE in there to keep algae under control
