I have a 240 gallon aquarium coming. What I would like to have for a stocking list is, black convicts, t-bars, red port acaras, fliers, rainbows, and possibly some cordyroys catfish and some giant danios for dithers. What I am not sure of is how many males/females of each. The tank will have a pangea 3d background with lots of driftwood to separate many terratories. In a perfect world, I could have all species breeding with all the fry being eaten up by the other fish. Is this possible or should I have an all male tank, or an all male tank with only 1 breeding pair?

all i can say is be carefull with the convicts they will become very aggressive when they have spawned ive just had to take mine out of my 200g because they were starting to tear the other fish apart and most of the other fish are 4 or 5 times bigger then the cons

i couldnt comment on that ive never had an all male tank but i know there are plenty of other cichlids u could spawn with that are a bit calmer and alot more colourfull and lets face it thats a nice big tank why waste it get a couple of monsters :)

Ohdannyboy, How do your fish get along, I know oscars and dempseys are supposed to be aggressive? Which of your fish are male/female?

i have both an oscar and a dempsey my oscar is more like a puppy and my dempsey is the biggest wimp in the tank at about 9" its scared of everything but all fish are different some people might tell u theirs are evil maybe i got lucky i think mine are both males but i cant be 100% sure

yeah i would do only males with the convicts if you really want them, but in that size tank you should be fine with pairs of the other cichlids and then just a couple male cons as clean up, i think some severums would fit in really nicely with that tank as well, i wouldnt do more than one pair of each species in the tank as they are more likely to fight within their own species

all males will cut down on the aggression, since there won't be any females to fight over . . .

I agree, I wouldn't tailor my tank to accomodate Convicts . . . would rather go with Firemouth in that set-up . . .
