stocking question

hey guys,


just wanbted some suggestions as a large american cichlid for a 3 x 18 tank, this will be a species tank and i am looking for a large american cichlid. any suggestions will be greatly apreciated. When the cichlid gets to around 8" i will be willing to migrate the fish to a 5fter

There are quit a few that would work as this is a very vague question. Any tankmates? What are you interested in? What can you get in Australia where you are? All of these things might help with the replies. Good luck.

You can probably get anything in australia, given that you look hard enough and have the right people, but the pike cichlid species are out of the question as they are on the noxious pest list.

if i get the suggestions then i can try to track down some of the posibilitys

Midas or red devil is what I would do.

i would first think about if you want a community tank,or breeding pair.if you think long term for the 3 foot tank,maybe a pair of salvinis,convicts,sajicas, not together.1 pair.you could also grow out a group of maybe 5 cichlids then move them to the 5 footer.are you new to cichlids? search photos for what you find appealing.some are peaceful,others will kill tank mates.
