Hi everyone im getting a new tank a 4x2x2 110 gallon tank.

Im looking for some advice and suggestions regarding stocking.

Its mainly going to have polys init as i already have some in a grow out tank only 5 inches each.

so what i was thinking was,

1x tiger oscar
1x lima shovelnose
1x knifefish was thinking African
1x silver dat

i will be getting everything from a relatively small size.

The tank will have 5 polys to start but would like to add more if pos.

Regarding the filtration i will definitely be using more then i need but i think thats for the best. I will be using a canister filter.

It will be fully planted, bog wood and rocks so there will be lots of hiding places.

Any advice is appreciated

Many thanks

what polys you got?..but i would go with the oscar over any of those..but they are messy..but bichirs should do clean up but good filtration is always a must..

I have 2x sen, 1x del, 1x endli, 1x ornate.

How many fish would you say i can keep i know it will come with experience but just looking to see what you guys think.

the shovel nose will grow too big. You'll need a 300 plus tank eventually.
also, there are too many bichirs going into that tank with the future monster fishes.

ok cheers for the advice do you think a 5x2x2 would be better?

Also if you dont think them ideas will work im open to suggestions

LIMA shovel not TSN haha gotta check the details sometimes

personally i wouldn't get the oscar at all as they will outgrow your polys and at some point probably at least attempt eating them - i've learned from experience that it can be difficult to get your bichirs food when cichlids are in the tank and a lot of times it can lead to overfeeding and a lot more work

I have had success with keeping Oscars and Bichirs together.
Never had any problems.
Current Oscar is an f1 at over 40cm. Been with bichirs varying from 8" up to 20" for a few years.

Also have a tank with a number of Bichirs and Dats, again, no problems.

was the oscar smaller than your bichirs when you got him or is he just a cooperative individual?
