I'm currently re-stocking an outdoor pond Appr. 1 acre, in size with walleye. I've been catching and re-homing all the bass I can prior to putting the walleye in. Talking with the fish farm, they just told me that the fish will only be about 4 inches by oct., the planned date to put in pond. My question is has anyone tried growing walleye for a few months in large rubber maid containers? was thinking of a 300 gal. with a good pond filter for about 20 or so fish? any thoughts??

Or you can just put them in the pond and the walleyes will growing....BUT! You need to get all bass out of the pond and makes sure you get ALL of them. Even a single adult bass can wipe out walleyes. I've seen the horrible results when an adult predatory fish got in the rearing walleye pond and wipe them out. A 18" crappie and a 12" sunfish were solely responsible for wipe out the walleye fingerlings one of the ponds the DNR stocked when we went to collect the walleyes in the fall for stocking in the lakes. No walleye fingerlings in that pond were ever found.....

Yes, thats what Im currently doing. I took 73 large mouth out so far. I guess the main question is: Is it possible to keep them for a few months in a holding tank, until they "Beef Up" a little?? I also have an outdoor KOI pond that I will throw a few in to for the winter. It's 4 ft. deep, and has running water year round.

Or you can just put them in the pond simple as that assumed that you got all bass out of the pond. Also it's very expensive to feeding the walleyes in the rubbermaids and the koi pond during the winter months. You don't say how many walleyes you are gonna stock in the pond.

I'm only getting 50/acre. I thought maybe 20 in the tub, 25 in the KOI pond(1,000 Gal.). Jus don't know if I'll be able to get all those Bass out for sure..
