Hey all, long time reader, infrequent poster. Setting my 36 gallon bowfront back up as I've wanted to get some Sajica cichlids for a long time; been on a waitlist at my LFS for a while and they have finally acquired 2 and are currently being shipped.

Obviously with only two the likelihood of acquiring a pair is low, but if that does happen I know all stocking changes :)

Assuming they aren't a pair, any advice for good tank mates? I would like a smaller school of something in addition to some bottom feeder (non-pleco). Would I be pushing my luck in adding a single Rainbow cichlid as well? Of course all temperament is unique to each cichlid but I am comfortable removing any later if they are getting bullied and returning to LFS but I understand length in this tank isn't ideal.

Tank has sand substrate, plenty of drift wood and rocks. Filtered by a Fluval U3 and a Penguin 200.

Thanks all

You might get lucky like I did, getting a pair out of two. I have had my pair about 8 months and kept them in a growout tank with some similarly sized SA's and the Sajica's were pretty mean to the others. Thinking about putting my pair into a 75g with some smaller cryptoheros growouts (1.5" vs 3" Sajica's). I think they would probably ignore most tetras or like schooling fish.

I think the rainbow is not a good idea, the sajica's are more aggressive and in a 36g would probably bully the rainbow. Tetras/catfish should have no problem however.

I agree with this. A small school of cories with a small school if tetras would be nice.
