So, I just picked up a 150 gallon tank. It currently houses 1 16" pike cichlid, 1 14" common pleco, 1 4" demasoni, 1 4" yellow lab, 4" rusty cichlid, 1 6-7" male convict, and 1 4" roseline barb. These are the fish that I brought over from my 55 gallon with the exception of the barb. I want to know what fish you guys think I could add to this tank. It feels pretty empty now. If need be I can move the barb over to another more peaceful tank to accomodate some more aggressive fish. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What do you like?

A Oscar might work, maybe a few clown loaches?

I would either get rid of the central and south american cichlids and go african, or vice versa. If you kept africans I'd go w/ some Frontosas, electric blue johannis or some african peacocks.

Lol yeah. Something tells me a six and half foot fish might have difficulty in a six foot tank. Just a thought. :) Arapaima fry perhaps.

I guess what I really want to know is if there are any really cool cichlids that max out between 4 and 10 inches. I am also looking to keep varying the colors in the tank to keep similar colored fish from fighting each other all the time. I am leaning toward a full grown venestus. I already picked up a 4" salvini that seems to be doing well in the tank.

I realize I am mixing south american and african cichlids with slightly different water parameter preferences. I started out with an african tank but ended up having to throw the pike in there when he didn't respond well to a large water change in another tank and I needed to get him in more stable water. He also needed to be in the larger of the two tanks, which was my african one. I was taking the convict fry from my other tank and tossing them in with the africans and pike to keep my convict population down and to get them some live food. Unfortunately one was able to survive and get large enough to hold his own in the tank. That's how I ended up with the mix but the pike and the convict have been doing really well in the higher ph water so I'm not too concerned about it at this point.

Severums perhaps. They are pretty docile and if they ever hit 10 inches it would be quite awhile normally.
