So I picked up a what appears to be 65 long. The dimensions, as stated in the title, are 72L x 12w x 18h (67.32g). I picked it up off Craigslist for cheap. It caame with a used Emperor 400 and a brand new one in box, so I've got the tank cycled running both. Currentlyit has mostly small gravel (1/4") with some smallish river stones (1/2-3/4") mixed in (what I had lying around) I want to do a SA cichlid tank, however I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want/should/can put in this tank, and whether or not I should switch the gravel out for sand.

The rather narrow width has me a bit concerned seeing as though it probably would not be very comfortable for any of the larger species (8+ inch fish) I have a 46g bowfront currently set up with a pair of Firemouths and Convicts, so I don't really want to go the CA route for this tank.

I also have a 29g that will I'm going to set up for Apistos so none of those either. ;)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :headbang2

thats some sweet tank dimensions (though your right about the width) i think any fish that stays at like 8in would be comfy def no bigger than 10in (that would really be MAX) i think a pair of sajicas in there with like 2 individual smaller cichlids and dithers would be an awesome looking tank, im drawing a blank right now about the other types of cichlids i like that stay small but im sure someone on here will come up with some good suggestions

Oh and WELCOME TO MFK:headbang2

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestion. I like the idea of Sajicas, they are a beautiful fish, though I'm not sure I can find them locally. I'm headed to the LFS this afternoon so I'll have to ask.

usual stock for a 55 gallon would apply here, the length doesnt make that much difference becuase your being inhibited by the 12" width.

It doesn't make a difference when it comes to fish size, however, it does open up options with the number of species that he can keep in the tank. When keeping cichlids and pairs of cichlids, footprint and length play a big part.

Green Terror!

That tank is too small for a green terror. It is too narrow and it wouldn't be able to comfortably turn around.
