hey guys

for my new tank that is being build as of tomorrow its a 3 x 2 x 2 (90gal)
can you guys suggest any large american cichlid males that would be suitable for life?

thanks guys

was thinking for somthing with more character, and just another think please dont mention any parachromis othrt than dovii, jags. as in australia your lucky to find any others!!!

As you probably know, the footprint of this tank is not ideal, that is too small. Cube like tanks are cool to look at but they do limit you, especially when it comes to large fish because there isn't the territory. You could do a pair of severum.

Hi Scott,

I'm an hour down the road from you in Alstonville so I know what sort of species you can get.

The 3 foot long is the problem. A foot long fish will only be able to move a bit before it has to turn around again. I would suggest nothing over 8-9 inches, which limits you a fair bit.

Personally I would go with a sole Carpintis (Super Green Texas), beautiful fish, might be a bit tight in that tank but could be alright. Other than that Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Firemouth, Salvini (if you can find one)- of those Green Terror has the most personality.

i know its not an american, but would a paratilapia polleni be okay for my tank? they look quite stocky and compact?

IMO a polleni would not have enough swim room. i have an adult polleni here that is easily 9 inches and i can tell you he uses the full length of his 4 foot long tank to swim.

i would go with a pair of severums personally, and then you could have some smaller fish in there as well, to make the tank well rounded and active on all levels. cories would be great for bottom dwellers!

Firemouth or Severum would be my suggestion. Male Firemouths can be attractive, and if placed in a tank with other small dithers they can be very attractive and active. Silver Dollars or Sword Tails could work.
Severums have a compact body and offer some good color choices.
I've always thought the 3x2x2 would be great for a group of Africans.
