I plan on setting up an Amazonian biotope tank, and im looking for a mean fish to throw in. I have been really interested in the Senegal Bichir, but they are not native to the Amazon, or related waters. I figured there has got to be a characins that would be both aggressive, and stay away from the angels. I really like rope fish and the Senegal Bichir, so anything from the amazon that's an odd ball, predatory, and not a fin nipper would be great, Thanks guys!
55g
Planted
Pool sand
Neutral-6 Ph

Red wolf would probably be your best bet. They dont get huge and are similar to birchir and wont terrorize most tankmates. Most aggressive fish will destroy your angel.

Just to be clear, 6ph is not neutral, 7ph is considered neutral. 6 would be acidic. Im not saying it to scold or try to sound like a know it all, I'm just saying it because if your intent was to get a neutral water PH and you were told 6 is neutral, your actually providing a more acidic base than neutral.

Thats all :)

On another note red/purple wolf would be sick. I have a malabaricus wolf n shes a beast, but not that active. With red/purple u get the best of both worlds plus a cool color!

Pink Tailed Chelceus, Roeboides guatemalensis, and the mentioned Red high finned wolf.

I know Rapps has the last 2 mentioned.

Pretty tough to find a predatory Amazonian "mean" fish for a 55 gallon........

I was saying 7-6 Ph, neutral being 7. My water quality gradually shifts with the seasons since I'm on city water.
Wouldnt a wof get too large for a 55?

Thank you, forums have told me that guatemalensis will be very nippy, and yeah it is hard to find them, I've just been looking for something cool to offset the angels since I don't particularly like them. Parents insisted on them since the tanks in the living room. How difficult is it to obtain a high finned Wolf, I've googled then before and I cam up fruitless. I had no idea smaller species existed. I'll definitely look for some!
