Hi all,
I'm looking for stock suggestions on my tank dimensions are:
48 long (distance along the front)
36 wide ( distance from front to back)
24 tall ( distance from top to bottom)

I have had many species in the past from stingray to discus.

But I would like an aggressive tank with plenty of movement.

Large species like Oscars etc

Want fish that really stand out

Any suggestions would be brilliant.

Filtration
1x FX6

17 litres K1
Ceramic media
In sump.

Many thanks

No expert..i see 3 choices

1. super kickass aggressive, dovii, beani, umbee, only one will remain
2. Territorial Agressive, jag, flowerhorn ( probably choice one) , red devil, convict, green terror, jack dempsey...colorful fish each tank environment and fish personility different..grow them small and young..they may live together..as cichlids age..they get more Agressive..must have tank divider if battle royals begin..

3. Semi Agressive... Red parrot, many different types of serveums, firemouths and oscars ( only agressive for food) add oscar after 6 months of established tank..or they will outgrow others fast..allow others to get size first

My opionion only, sure others will help and increase list

Peace

First two important questions,

Are these measurements in cm or In.

Second, what’s your water like? Ph, hard, soft?

pH and hardness are different, hardness is dissolved mineral content, pH is acidity of water. Usually soft water and low pH go hand In hand, and vice versa. But not necessarily.
Central americans like harder water, south americans like soft water. Though most are adaptable to a degree.

My question would be, what kind of setup do you want. Single fish, pair of fish, or many fish?

If you want many fish, you will have to go for the more peaceful end of spectrum. (Oscars, severums, chocolate cichlids, etc.) Many options that would work together.

If you want a single fish you could keep almost any cichlid you wanted, except for a dovii or umbee.

I would go Festae, Jeff has some bigger 4 to5in F1s right now

4 feet of swim space, regardless of front to back, is not much territorial space for multiple territorial species like an oscar/jag/midas etc, who any one of them will likely claim the whole tank from any cichlid within 75% of its size.

Now if you are talking about 1 territorial cichlid with dithers, it could work.

Since you state your have soft water, I would stick to South American species from east of the Andes, Not Central or North Americans (Mexico is part of the north american continent, as is central if your into that geographic trivia., check you continent maps.
I also agree getting territorial large cichlids would probably be a mistake, but shoals of the more social species might make for an interesting tank, with South Amican dither fish like Charcins, and geographically correct plant species.
