Hi guys,

New member from Australia here.

I've recently picked up a second tank and am trying to decide what to stock it with. The dimensions are 36" x 18" x 21".

I love American cichlids and currently have other tanks with the Convicts, Jack Dempsey, Firemouths etc. I love the idea of a big single 'wet pet' but not sure this tank has the foot print for it.

Most sites suggest 55g minimum for fish like Red Devils or Gold Saums, but it seems like those tanks are more commonly 48" in length.

Is there anything that'd be happy for life in my tank dimensions with a decent personality?

Also open to other suggestions.

Cheers!

For a single wet pet in those dimensions you’d be looking at anything that gets no bigger then 6 to 7 inches maximum. So look into other amatitlania species or thorichthys species. Rainbow cichlids can also be wetpet like. Most cichlids can be wetpet like given they are solo so they focus on you rather than natural behavior with other fish.

Convict is definitely the best for wet pet type. Rainbows are a nice flash of color.
Blue acaras would be good and have lots of personality.

No doubt. If you find a convict with good genetics when it reaches adult size it can look like a mini Midas. Heck I have seen convicts that look better than a lot of Midas you see. The personality is up there too.

100% there are some white convict pictures out there that look just like white Midas.
