I have a standard 75 gallon with a 3" green sunfish a 2.5" JD and 2 3" GTs. The GTs aren't going to stay. theyre here to spread out aggression until i figure out my stocking. My green sunfish is boss and likes to remind his tankmates of that quite often especially if he's kept with only one other fish. So before I get rid of the terrors i want to find a distraction or two for him. In a 75 do I have enough room to add a convict, maybe 2(same sex). Also how well have silver dollars worked for people, how many of those would i need to keep and is my tank big enough, also the only question that matters. do your other cichlids actually go after them? Are there any other convict sized cichlilds that would do ok with a couple monsters? I know this is way more than one question. any other ideas on how to keep these two together would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Convicts are the best bet. Also not to rain on JD's, but if I had to choose which to get rid of it would probs be it; its likely to hide forever, the older it gets.

If you do convicts make sure you do all males or all females to lessen the aggression because if you have a male and female pair up you're likely to see aggression in the tank skyrocket quickly.

Got 5 SD in my 4 feet tank as target fish. But their not targeted as often as i would like, sometimes a cichlid will zero in on a specific fish, sometimes my male midas zeroes in on the female midas, which more often than not, they stay together peacefully while digging a site to spawn..

Those terrors are so skittish though, they don't hold their ground well against the sunfish either. I know they're supposed to get pretty mean too as they get older but how much can i bet on that. I'm pretty sure they're both females too, one is starting to get pretty rowdy so we'll see. Another question, If I were to clean house except for the sunfish, what can i keep to teach him some respect. I was looking at oscars because they're kinda laid back but would be able to handle a sunfish, but could i fit both in a 75? and if so I'm assuming little to no target fish? trying to keep my options open.

Don't do SD's...

I have filament barbs in a 180, the cichlids are all between 3 and 6" now, with the filament barbs around 3".. not so sure the barbs get targeted enough but they sure are active and not as skittish as SD's or as big. I got rid of my SD's as they would just spook way too easily and then knock themselves out on the glass or the rocks in the tank.
