Now that the new tank is setup and all the fish have been transferred over, the new tank looks...... empty lol. 2 clowns, 2 chromis, a diamond goby and coral banded shrimp don't fill it up like they did in the smaller tank. The issue is now, I have so many choices. I'm going to build it as a reef tank, so all the fish will need to be more or less reef safe. I'm looking for suggestions. I want bright fish that will be active to make my tank look busy. Looking at tangs, angels, etc... What would ya'll do?

Hey nice pick up....now you have a bigger tank then me :(

Well these are the fish in my reef tank:

-Convict Tang
-Fire Fish
-Chromis
-Diamond Goby
-Naso Tang ( Will be given up when gets larger)
-Disbar Anthias

Also you can follow up on newyorksteelo channel on youtube. He has a 90 Gallon Tank and explains everything about it...he is the to go guy for videos on setting up reef tanks.

You can and probably have looked up fish on liveaquaria...I don't always buy from this site but they do give you beneficial information.

Been on liveaquaria...

Thoughts on a blue tang? I know thet get big and need swimming room. But can i get a juvi and house him a while? The wife has been bugging me to get one

you could do a blue jaw triggerfish, they are reef safe. don't get to big, but a good size of 8-9". i love triggers so i have to suggest one...lol. if you don't know what they look like check out my new update on the tank to see mine.

niger trigger is my favorite fish at the moment, he's still a baby but could care less about coral. can be a little hard on smaller snails but a fantastic fish with a lot of personality. if you really like tangs and want one you can house for life or just a really long time in that 90 i'd go with a yellow eyed kole tang or maybe a half black mimic

i wouldn't go with a niger mine was fine with inverts at 2" and now at 4-5" it distroys everything but snails. also the fact that it gets around 20" is not a good thing to have in a 90gal. i have not put corals in with them.... yet. the op has a shrimp so the niger is most likely a risk that the op doesn't want to take and i don't know if he plans to go bigger in the future. so based on all that, thats why i recommended the blue jaw/blue throat trigger. its invert safe, coral safe and stays small.

I weary of triggers in general for that purpose... They like to eat small snails and shrimp....

I'd stay away from triggers, also. No trigger is truly "reef safe" from my understanding, though they can live in reefs without bothering corals. It's always a "your call" kind of thing. Risk it if you want, but I'm not going to :P

I'm not sure what you're looking at money wise, but for tangs might I suggest the Powder Blue Tang (one of my favorites), the Powder Brown Tang and the Convict Tang as tangs that may be capable of living a full life in a 90, but may need an upgrade. Some that will be capable of living in a 90 for life are the Bristletooth Tomini Tang (most bristletooths can live in a 90 for life), the Kole Yellow Eye Tang, or the Mimic Half Black Tang? I've checked and all of these can be found on liveaquaria if you want to look them up more, but all are wonderful fish. You can certainly house a Blue Tang in the 90, but you definitely won't be able to keep it long term.

As I'm sure you know, all Dwarf Angels can stay in a 90, and many of them look nice. Not many large Angels can stay in a 90, though. Maybe a Rock Beauty, maybe a Xanthurus Cream, but I can't really think of any others personally.

No tangs are going to be very well suited in a 90g.

Liveaquaria undersizes tanks...and when you get tangs you will realize that they really need an oversized tank to reach their full potential healthily.

I would say that a yellow tang, or one of the smaller bristlemouths might work.
