So I am planning on stocking a couple of 125s with peaceful SA cichlids. I already have most of these fish, but am looking for options for additional tankmates or advice on mixing these species if I've overlooked something.

125 large species tank:
1 notatus severum
2 Aequidens sp. 'Jenaro Herrera'
2 Geophagus winemilleri (don't have yet)

125 dwarf species tank:
5 Tahuantinsuyoa Macanzatza (aka Inca stone fish)
4 Guianacara stergiosi

So I know I won't have much room for tankmates in the large species tank with five roughly 10" fish, but is there room to add anything else? Namely, I am looking to add a non-cichlid bottom dweller like a bichir, eel or other intriguing species if possible. Any thoughts on what my options might be (if any)? And I think I will top the stock off with some giant danios for dithers because all the giant danios I've ever had stay at the immediate top all the top. LOL

For the dwarf species tank, I know my bottom level is maxed out so I'm thinking of adding 6-8 angels. I thought of adding festivum, but I know they get aggressive when kept in groups when they are larger. Any other options for top dwellers besides a bunch of tetras or dithers?

Thanks for the help, all!

1st tank - a shoal of cories is all I'd try on the bottom & instead of danios I'd try some tetras, You already have an all SA tank going, don't mess it up with danios. Pet peeve of mine.

2nd tank - angels should be fine with the guinacara, but I dont know too much about stone fish. Some fish just can't resist nipping angels fins.

Don't forget about hatchetfish either. They may not be the most colorful, but their shape is unique & they are very active top-dwellers.

Would a shoal of tiny cories be okay with large fish, especially sand sifting geos? What about a couple smaller species of loaches?

I already have the danios, which is why I was planning on using them with the larger species. I will definitely be using lemon and/or serpae tetras in the dwarf tank. The T. macs don't seem to have an issue with the small Aequidens 'JH'. They seem to keep to themselves. Worse case scenario is I have to rehome the angels and look into something else. If the T. macs are going to be nippy, then they might just be able to tolerate living with festivum.....maybe.

In my experience, Geophagines work well with Corys as long as they are larger than bite size, below is my balzani tank, it has 6 balzani and 7 Corydorus erhardti.

I guess my concern stems from the fact that winemilleri hit 8-10" or so and have large mouths. I wouldn't want one of the geos to attempt to swallow a cory thinking its bite size and end up choking to death on the thing.

Do you think I could house the Guianacaras in the large species tank? I am thinking of skipping the 125 dwarf tank and just having the 125 large species tank and a 55 for the T. macs.

I think you could prob do that no problem. I would do 2x 50% WCs weekly at the very least. Those SA fish really thrive in low nitrates.

It might look a little crowded, but I don't always mind that look.

Really? That many major WCs? I didn't think it would be that crowded. If that is the case, I will leave it with just the five large fish and keep it at that. Not sure if the 'JH' are going to be able to get along. The big one bullies the smaller one a bit right now, especially during feeding times. No damage yet, but a decent amount of chasing. It would be cool if I got a breeding pair, but at this point, I'll be happy if they both make it to adulthood without killing one another. I'll keep the four Guianacara in their own 55 with some dithers then.
