I have a four line cat who's looking lonely in a 55g all by himself. I have been researching stocking options and am thinking either discus or rams and rainbows.

Would the rams be uncomfortable with the other large bottom dweller in the tank? The cat is about a foot long, I don't think he'd be able to fit a ram in his mouth... I do plan on adding more hiding places as well.

I'm not sure how dirty the tank would get with discus and a four line I know they are both messy.

Any advice/experience is greatly appreciated! As well as any other stocking suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I'd go with some larger tetras (Hyphessobrycon anisitsi or Phenacogrammus interruptus) or maybe rainbowfish

I'm hesitant to go with tetras due to their fin nipping nature. Don't want to get something that would over stress my 10 year old cat.

Rasbora caudomaculatus,
( greater scissors tails) would work as well unless you are wanting to stay south American then I would second the idea of larger tetras like bleeding hearts

I keep 2 of them with 4 Raphael's, 8 loaches,
3 dozen tiger barbs and 2 Geophagus. Everyone leaves the 4 line cats alone. They also don't try to eat my barbs. I think you'll be fine with rainbows or any larger fast schooling fish.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. Officially looking at rainbows.

My LFS has some fully grown German blue rams also, would they be too small to share a tank with the fully grown cat? Don't want to buy them just to have them end up as expensive feeders...
