Stocking

Hey guys I recently purchased a 48"×18"x18" tank and am curious to see what people think of how ive stocked it.
It currently contains :
1 oscar, roughly 2"
1 firemouth, 1.5"
1 geophagus surinamensis, 1.5"
2 convicts , 0.5"
2 clown loaches, 1.5"
1 black ghost knife, 2"
1 tandanus catfish 3"

Also is there many other Aussies on here? ☺

In my opinion it will be overstocked once the fish put on some size. What kind of filtration are you running?

Im currently running an eheim 2217 and a fluval 305 cannister filters

Filtration sounds good, but you may want to think about what you plan on keeping long term. In my opinion a 4' tank is small for any fish that reaches 12"+ like the Oscar. Also if the convicts are male and female you will have issues....

Hopefully ill have a bigger tank by the time the fish get to that size lol ive only recently got back into the hobby after not having any fish for the past 10 years. How can i determine the sex of the convicts?

I'd say in 6-8 months you'll be overstocked.

the convicts will beat up the other cichlids in a tank that size

Congrats on the return to fish keeping. As far as the convicts females have a little pink/orange on their throats usually.

Thanks for your input guys. On a side note, how often should I be feeding the juvenile cichlids?
