I have a 150 gallon tank with a male jd, 2 female texas and a female green terror. I also have a common pleco. The cichlids are between 2 and 3 inches and the pleco maybe 5-6 inches. I wanted to have an oddball in the tank and I was thinking about a polypterus. The problem is I really don't know anything about the different species of polypterus. I was wondering what species would be the best for that stocking and if you have other ideas then polys, I'm open minded

Cichlids and plecos are a little hit or miss with Poly's. Keep the pleco well fed and enough decor to distract the cichlids from the polys.

May want to consider the upper jaw family. The lower jaws may eat ur fish and there will be significant size difference. Delhezi, Senegalus, palmas, busty, retro etc will be an ideal choice.

Could always try some smaller schooling catfish. Synos or pims.

Those fish are on the small side and tbh no way of telling what their temperment will be as they grow. Also have to take ito account feeding tendencies. Cichlids for the most part are aggressive freeders while polys are on the slower side. Not saying it wont work but you may have to timker.

Another thing to consider is polys are addicting lol most find it hard to just keep one.

You should start a thread in the polypterus section and get different opinions on species. Agree kno4te upper jaws would probably suit that tank better long term. Is the tank 72x18 ?
