After a painful three years of completely Renovating a house and getting moved into this 100 year old beauty. I finally get my 220 out of storage and get it setup.

Driftwood, Lots of Java moss, fake plants from crafts section at wally world on pool filter sand.

DIY chompers drawer style wetdry with a magdrive 2400.

So my stock list as of now how does it look do i need more?? everything is small now
1 JD
1 GT
1 Midas
3 red tiger oscars
6 convicts 2 normal 4 patternless
1 clown knife small
1 pleco common small
5 bristlenose plecos small
1 tire track eel small
6 tinfoil barbs

thanks

Wow that is a lot of fish for a 220g.

Personally I would loose at least 2 Oscars, 5 Convicts, the common Pleco, 2 bristlenose Pleco, and 3 Tinfoil barbs. I still think you would be too full!

You have some fish with seriously large adult size like the clown knife, the eel, let alone Tin Foil barbs at a foot a piece and an Oscar that will get at least 14".

i would also get rid of all the tinfoil barbs because they should be kept in groups, but it is almost impossible to fit 6 tinfoils in that tank.
also think about getting rid of the common pleco because they are big waste producers and you already have all those bushynoses.
lastly you might want to get rid of the clown knife and eel because they are both non-aggressive eaters and would struggle to eat with all those cichlids.
it seems like a lot, but it would only be for the best.

The tinfoils are just here to grow out then im trading them in. I'm quite aware of the feeding issues thats why i use a thirty inch tube about a half in long to feed the eel. the knife doesnt seem to have an issue he eats the pellets already.

The one thing that does bother me dont get me wrong i appreciate the feedback. Is that Ive seen several shots on MFK of smaller tanks with clown knives or oscars or whatever arbitrary fish and there is nothing but kudos to the person.

Dont get me wrong but i think my 6inch clown knife is better off in a 220 than the 20 he was in with the 12 irridescant sharks.
thanks

I haven't read the threads you mentioned but maybe those people were just using a smaller tank as a grow out. I say go with what you got and make changes when you fell its time I wouldn't add anymore though.

If this is a grow out, sure.

But that is an awful lot of big fish for just a 220!

The 3 oscars and the midas full grown would take that up easily.

Just an excuse to upgrade later :)

I mean no disrespect when I say this at all, but if you know you re going to trade in the tinfoils, you might be better off trading them in now while they are smaller. Not a very big market for half dozen adult tinfoils. I'd think you'll have more luck trading now.

And you re absolutely right. Your ck is much better off in the 220 then the 20 but they do grow several feet long. I assume you already traded the pangasius as they too grow to 3-4 feet in the wild. 12 pangasius and a ck in a 20? Must have been very small fish.

If you intend on the 220 to be a grow out tank, you'll be ok for awhile. I wish I had a 220 grow out, but then again, this is MFK so it's probably more common than I think. Either way, good luck with your decisions!
