I really like CA cichlids and I have all of the below fish and all are juvies except the HRP. Can I keep these in a 75 for life or will I have to cut back on some.

4x Honduran Red Point (all male) 3"-4"
2x Fire mouth (pair) 3"
3x Rainbow Cichlid (unsexed) 2"
1x Green phantom Pleco 4"

Will all of these be ok in the tank for life or am I over stocked?

Might be a little over stocked, but not too bad. If I had to lose something, I would ditch the rainbows. I kept them briefly & found them really boring & drab color most of the time when not breeding.

I was wondering about that all the pics I see they look amazing but I wondered if that was just breeding. Every single video on you tube is of them breeding as well. I just wanted to add something with a little more color. I got the rainbows for 1.99 each so I wont loose sleep if I have to get rid of them.

what about this in a 75

4x Honduran Red Point (all male)
2x Fire mouth (pair)
1x Green Terror
1x Green phantom Pleco

So decided the rainbows are going. Anyone let me know if this works

what about this in a 75

4x Honduran Red Point (all male)
2x Fire mouth (pair)
1x Green Terror
1x Green phantom Pleco
1x clown loach ( I forgot about him yesterday)

Or should I stick with

4x Honduran Red Point (all male)
2x Fire mouth (pair)
1x Green phantom Pleco
1x Clown loach

I'd either get rid of the clown loach or add a few more since they're such an active and social fish, probably get rid of though since a 75g is a little on the small side for them. And i don't know if having a pair of any medium sized cichlids in a 4 ft tank with other fish, particularly other cichlids, is really a good idea. They're either gonna stress out the other fish by basically cutting off and guarding half the tank or the other fish will stress the pair out by continuously going to their side of the tank.

+1 to the clown loach info, but they do grow very slowly. If you wanted to get a few more for a group, you'd have a couple years before they outgrew your tank. Might be best to rehome him though. & no to the GT and other fish in a 75.

A pair will claim half that tank easily, but if you have no intention of raising the spawn, just wipe the eggs or syphon out the fry and everything will be back to normal.

ok so I can rehome the clown if need. I am not to worried about the spawning I have had the firemouths spawn the same time as the HRP's and everyone did fine. I have since gotten rid of the female HRPs as I have to many babies and the Firemouth fry I just let get picked off.

I do know how psycho FM get when they spawn this pair came out of my first set of fry and I sold off the parents and thought I kept two male. I had no intention of breeding them anymore. However one of them is female even though they both have long streamers on the fins. Still not sure which is the female.

The firemouths have a territory on the left of the tank. The Dominant HRP has a territory on the rights side and the non dominant HRP's go throughout the tank. There is some flaring from both sides but no aggression. I joke with my wife its like two rival gangs but nobody makes a move.

So my new idea now is

75 Gallon (will this work for life)
2 HRP
2 FM
1 GT
1 Clown Loach (will rehome when I need to)
1 green phantom pleco

40B
I will move the other two HRP into the tank that is now holding the fry when the fry get big enough. Select a few keepers from the fry and have a tank for my HRP's in that tank.

5 or 6 xHRP's
1 x Rubber Lip pleco (in the fry tank now)

My GT is only 2 inches I know they are slow growers how long before it reached 6 or 7"

I am open for other suggestions with the above stock list and tanks.

I don't think the GT is going to work long term in that set-up. How about replacing the GT with something a little smaller like a JD or Salvini?

I think a female rivulatus will probably make this setup work. A male might work if he is of a passive or peaceful temperament. The firemouth pair will help to keep him in line if they have a strong pair bond, but if he gets too territorial, you will either have to rehome some of his tankmates or rehome him. My rivulatus pair have their own 75 all to themselves and I have to divide the tank sometimes because he beats on her. She is 5-6" and more personable than the 7" male. He hides from me a lot while she comes to greet me as soon as I walk into sight.
