hello friends,

i am very excited starting a new 4ft african mixed tank.
tank size 4x.1.5x1.5 ft (67gallons)

i have already got the following Malawi (all are juvenile males at 1-1.5 inch)

1 Labidochromis caeruleus
1 Aulonocara baenschi
1 Copadichromis borleyi
1 Protomelas sp. "Steveni Taiwan"

i am still looking for Placidochromis electra and Astatotilapia latifasciata male

i also like a greenish color fish, i am looking at Nimbochromis venustus and Neolamprologus tetracanthus male
is the Neolamprologus tetracanthus a greenish color fish?
which above is a better choice? Nimbochromis venustus or Neolamprologus tetracanthus

also i am looking for a 2nd red color african, is the Hemichromis lifalili suitable for this mix?

thanks

For a red fish, I would go with eureka red, ruby red, or german red

hello ice blue

thanks for advice.
i did tried out the Aulonocara german-red. but it was constantly picking on the Aulonocara baenschi.
i when back to the local LFS and swap another german-red and the same thing.
thus i have returned the german-red to the local LFS.

i read we should try not to keep same genus, color and look alike of fishes in a mixed african tank?
any thoughts?

Vensustus is a predatory fish, it's always a crapshoot with these guys. They might eat/attack your other fish. So it's a risk.
I wouldn't do it if I was you.

The Borleyi eventually get large 6-7".. you may have to rehome them eventually. I just bought two full grown males a few weeks ago. I had them in a 75 gallon for quarantine.. they were very restless .. that tank was too small for them. Lots of darting around and jumping.. Once they got moved into a 300 gallon, they settled down. Note: I'm not saying this is a bad fish.. It's very docile, just also very active.. Just keep an eye on him.
