The back end of hell.
So last night i moved my ghost shrimp and mollies into my larger tank, leaving some bamboo shrimp, amano shrimp and a betta in my 15 gal.

I gave it a 25% change at the same time, 'hoovered' the floor leaving the exoskeleton of the recently moulting bamboo shrimp , and little sign of any other debris.

Today i check on them and notice one of the bamboo shrimp (one that didnt moult) hiding, but seeming otherwise healthy.

I then notice what appears to be a stomach and intestines on the floor, a small brown 'sack' with a small 'zig zag' pipe coming off it, greenish grey in colour. The sack being around 5 mm in diameter and tpipe being around 10-15mm if extended at a guess.

What could this be off and why? at first glance i thought maybe it was an embryo or something, but now im thinking maybe the betta has 'puked' its stomach out since it has been spitting it's food out alot lately, or maybe it is off its food because it is taking chunks out of the shrimp. The betta doesnt usually spit it's food out although i am aware that some fish do without being much concern.

It used to bully the mollies and ghost shrimp so it is a possibility, but for all i know it could have been there from the moult and be nothing to worry about.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this please?

ive seen the same thing, but i keep bichirs, aros and gars... weird.

id be seriously surprised if its poo, a betta is what 50 mm and the ball is say 5mm, it would have to have a trick or two up it's sleeve to pull that one off.

I dont have a camera decent enough to pick it up well tbh,

The betta's weird behaviour has now been explained by the large bubble nest in the tank so i'd say he is fine.,

My best guess now is the bamboo shrimp moulting and it not being a stomach, maybe decomposing 'fans' or some such thing.

Im not worried about the shrimp etc now, they are all back to their normal habits, its just well, weird.

But thanks for the suggestions!

I think this happens usually after a water change? I've noticed this before from 1 of my arowanas, he seems to vomit out his stomach lining.

Hmm, not heard of this happening. Could it simply be a dollop of faeces? Any chance of a pic?

I love this, It sounds like a high tea gone very wrong!

cleaned the tank out again today and extracted the 'thing', it disintegrated in my hands as soon as it left the water. It did look like waste once disintegrated, all the same consistency and darker once out of the water so seemingly it was waste shaped by water currents. feel a bit dumb now but there you go, no need to panic next time ><
