Stop eatting the eggs.

How do I get my FH's to stop eatting there eggs. My male is one year old and 10" the female is 5" and 6 months old.
they have laid eggs twice and they keep eatting the eggs.
the male starts it then the female goes and does as he does.

So help me please. My last pair was 2 1/2" long when they started breeding and they did great. as a matter of fact the female is one of their first fry.

First is the male from my first pair but this is how the female of of my current pair looks. Second is the male.

wow thats a lovely male. I would suggest you remove the eggs to a fry tank.

Yep, a well oxygenated fry tank. It sounds like your current pair don't have the parental instinct.

i think they are not a compatible pair. i suggest you either find another male or another female. i dont think this prsent combination will ever work out

Sometimes it takes a few attempts to get it right. My red tiger motags ate their eggs three times before they got the idea. If you are in a big hurry to raise fry try the artificial method, if not give them some time.

i second the notion to allow them more time sometimes just takes fish longer to get it right.

I also suggest you move the eggs,by simply picking up the decoration the eggs are one. Place them in an Oxygenated tank,with a bubble stone next to them. Maby the parents are eating the dead eggs.

Removing the eggs would be great but I don't even think the male leaves them long enough to fertillize them. there were probibly 50 eggs laided then he started eatting them.

I am accually thinking they need more time or they are never going to get it right. This is only the second time so i'll give it a few more times then if it doesn't work i'll be in the market for a new male.

eating the eggs is an attitude of a female flowerhorn. if the male does it, find a new male. if its the female who starts the feast, then youve got a problem. its really a passed on behavior and i havent heard of any treatment.
