Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop Convicts from breeding? I'm about to take the females out and keep only males.. or vice versa. I'd hate to do that, but I now have 2 breeding pairs.. The other fish never bother the fry and if I dont' suck em out, they grow and grow.. My 135 is looking smaller and smaller everyday..

If anything I would keep females. Most species of cichlids if kept all males will fight for territory. Plus the females have the brilliant orange on their stomachs. A few larger female Convicts would look very nice.

separate....... thats the only way if u have males and females

Tell them to strap the jimmy.

If you lower the pH, the eggs might dissolve or be too soft...just an idea. Don't know if it holds water. Lower temps would also reduce total metabolism, discouraging breeding. Of course, any change made to reduce reproductive drive typically threatens the livelihood of the creature. The immune systems of the fish wouldn't function as well under the stress of low pH and temps...
