Hi everyone. I just set up my 110 gallon tank and was worried about water coming back down the air tubes to the air pump. I've seen those small things that connect to both sides of the air tube and it's supposed to only let air go one way and doesn't let water go past it. I hope I wasn't too confusing. I want to know if anyone has used it, how did it go, or what other things I can do to prevent the water from going to my air pump. Don't want to come home after a power outage and have water all over the electrical equipment. Thanks, Ed.

You're talking about a check valve, they let air through but won't let water up. The best fail safe is to keep your pumps above the tank otherwise make sure you invest in a quality check valve. I use a check valve and keep my pump above the tank, so I've never really had the check valve ever have to work.

^This.

There's no real reason that your check valve shouldn't work, though.

Moved to Setup & Filtration.

I use check valves for priming my overflow tubes. They don't let air go back through so water will not either. I got the "el cheapo" witch is Spanish for "the cheap ones". Work great all my pumps are at the same level or in most cases below my tanks.
