Hey guys, is this a good idea? I'm throwing ideas around right now...and just thought of this...what do you think...

will it be safe in a sense that it wont rust and leak anything toxic etc into the pond?

thanks!

Good idea, except that it would be heavy to move it around (may be screen type would be easier). I am using the insulation material (retangular 4' x 8' ) to cover the top, easy to take off and put it back on.

It's not a bad idea, but you may want to check on what they're finished with. Since they're exterior doors, they're built to handle moisture for quite a while, but you never know what they may be treated with. Since moisture is likely to condense on the underside and drip back into the pond, that will be your main source of concern.

I like the idea though, and it even comes with a latch so nobody can lift the lid from inside (even if they could lift something that heavy.

You could also go with an unfinished wood screen door, and then finish it yourself with either polyurethane or Krylon Fusion paint. That way you would know for sure that it was safe for the fish pond.

thanks guys for the feedback, my gf's father actually gave me a 6ft long window (combination of two windows) that was a year old and he doesn't need it anymore...I already bought the door from home depot and am thinking of returning it and plopping this on...so it would be the same thing I guess with what they finished it with I'm assuming...ok so I'll grab some krylon fusion cans to spray the outter perimeter of the window...but what paint should I use to paint the plywood frame that the window is fitting in...any suggestions?

thanks guys!

almost complete!!! here are some pics to get an idea...
my appologies, but there is still A LOT of cleaning to be done lol, and some cosmetics still to be added to the pond...enjoy!
