Hey Everyone, Happy Saturday. Ive got something I want to share. Ive had this problem where my filter strainer was too small and it constantly collected debris on the cover which was unsightly and required me to constantly dip my hands in there to clean it off. The real problem was when I took the strainers off it sometimes sucked up my oto's and rummy nose tetras which was starting to cost me replacing them and increasing the chances of introducing diseases to my tank from the new fish. Some advise I had received was placing a mesh over the tubes and/or widening the strainer by cutting. Tried that and broke a few strainers not to mention cutting myself a couple of times. Then I had a vision, I took off the strainers and placed the filter suction tubes in a heater guard which was big enough to allow the larger particulates in and small enough not to murder my fish. Just thought Id share that. Oh and by the way, does anyone know a brand name of commercial bulk peat to use for softening my water? Everywhere I look states using peat as a softening agent but doesn't state a brand name of a bulk product. I currently use FlUVAL Peat granular, but I need approx 35oz per month and the FLUVAL peat boxes are 17oz and 15 bucks a pop

hi there aquafever not sure about the strainer topic lost me a bit there ,mabe a pic to straighten out the confusion

bulk peat is easly found at any gardening centre look for mulch with no additives and simply bag it rinse well

i stopped with the peat a while ago i get the same results from good wood from the fish store
