Hey everyone,
I have my feeder tank under a pretty bright light so the big gob of java moss grows enough stuff to keep my shrimp green in the gut. Recently, I had an outbreak of brown diatoms which I let colonize for a bit too long. Anyway, along with this algae I noticed a weird with looking substance splotched on the glass, like the beginning of coralline algae in a reef tank, but not the pretty colors. It scraped off easily, but it was a bit tougher than the diatoms. My water is really soft, but supplemented with cuttlebone for molting, so I have trouble believing that this is any kind of salt deposit. Any ideas? I apologize for not having a picture. I tried to get it with my phone, but there wasn't enough resolution to really see it.
Thanks guys,
Brandon
