So i have been a member here since 2007 i have bred FH, RD, GT, Fire mouths even a short time with Fronts. 2 month ago my wife got 6 3-5 in RJ within 3 days a pair formed and had babies a week later i take out the babies she has another batch. Long story short i left her latch batch was about 150+ now there is about 50+ left and they laid eggs yesterday.
NOW the 3 week old fry are hanging around the eggs sometimes looks like they are eating the eggs the female dont chase them away she leaves the fry with the eggs and swims around.
Questions, Are the fry helping to protect the eggs????" ive never seen that!!!!!
does the female trust the fry?
are they fry to little/young to eat the eggs?
is the pair letting the fry eat the eggs (maybe under feeding?) i feed flakes 3-4X a day
Thank mates ive just never seen behavior like that from cichlids
46 gallon Bow front no tank mates nothing F 307 parms 0,0,10

I think the hyper breeding Jewels give an unnatural opportunity for the abundant fry to congregate in & around the nest.
In the wild the fry would naturally disperse into the vast aquatic environment, which is not possible in the confines of an aquarium.
