So on monday i got new glass panels to replace my old acrylic cover tops for my 150 gallon. Ever since then, my cichla have been acting very strange. When i put in their floating food: aro sticks, bio gold +, cichlid gold, fd krill, they usually would all be waiting near the surface and compete for every last piece of food. After i got the new glass tops, they seem scared to go anywhere near the top. They will dart up and grab a piece of food and then quickly dive back down. I have even seen them dart up half way, get spooked and go right back down. Anyone have ideas on what is happening? I also feed them massivore, and they are eating that just fine because it is sinking down to them. I did a 40% WC last night and the parameters are ph 7.8, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 30 ppm.

Maybe they're seeing their reflection and that's spooking them or something.

I was thinking this too, do you think they'll get used to it? Might have to switch them onto massivore and sinking cichlid gold if they dont.

thats exactly what it is mine do it too

How long have they been doing this? I'm moving them into my 240 as soon as i sell off the aros, so this shouldnt be a problem in a couple months. Just kind of irritating at the moment.

Yeah I just answered in your other thread. I think they will get used to it after a few days.

They'll get over it. I'm sure you made a lot of noise and scared them when you replaced the lids. give it a few days and they should be back to normal.

My cichla are sorta like that, when I initially come home they'll hit the surface very readily but after they eat a while they'll run at the surface and stop, seemingly spooked by something. I think they'll be ok in a couple days.
