Very much south..
I am talking about the one I posted a couple of weeks ago that was confined to a foot long tank.

1- His colours remain awesome, with exploding reds...

2- Not being an avid eater ( he was fed on carp chow ), he eats "normally" ( 2 to 3 pelltes of Massivore thrice daily.

3-Now his behaviour is odd. He rarely swims normally. He is either laying low, in a normal position," supporting himself" on a rock...

4- or he is swimming up and down the tank, caterwaulting, sommersaulting and doing upside downs. Allmost looks like a neurological issue.

5- Then he quiets down, for a couplelof minutes, up to an hour ( and that is when it feeds ) an then resorts back to laying low or to do his aquactic gymnastics.

Strange behaviour. Could it be from the 1 foot confinement? Can it be neurological and will worsen?

ANy thoughts on this?

Miguel

Check out whirling disease, parasitic infection of brain and spinal cord. It's permanent. If his stomach is not bloated, then it probably isn't a swim bladder issue.

On the other hand, he could be excited? They tend to swim crazy when they are excited and given that each flowerhorn has it's on personality, the limitations could be endless lol.

how big is he? from the photos a foot long tank is probably too small for him. so I could see him swimming erratically as a result. Up and down the tank is totally normal.

Thank you. He on the 10 inch mark. He was confined, not anymore.

He swims up and down, but tme moeuvre is crazy, he somewraults instead f turning normally...

He is not bloated, in the least

Just ride it out a bit and just watch him. Or better yet, get a video =P. I doubt there's anything wrong. They are very excitable fish.

Better yet. Found lovely female and threw her in with him to see what coild happen.

He turned into a loving, normal, husband, stopped caterwaulting.....

I would not recommend feeding a FH Massivore, or do so on a very controlled basis. Massivore is far too high in both protein and fat for an omnivorous species of fish.

Typical Analysis:
Crude protein 51.0% min
Crude fat 10.0% min

Secondarily the fact that he is eating is a good sign, is his poo white and stringy?

Internal parasites have nothing to do with the behavioural issues Miguel was seeing in his fish.
