Strange bump any ideas?

My hujeta gar had this bump on him yesterday, today it is much larger and red any ideas what it could be? Water is perfect, weekly water changes and treating with salt right now he is 4" and the other one in my tank is fine. Any ideas would be helpful to what it is and how to treat

I dont know what it is but looks just the same like a few of my fish get with time they go red then they pop, dont mean to scare you but 50% of the time when they pop the fish went not long after.

Maybe they are different, I still have no idea what causes them sadly.
 
Hard to tell with the pics, but what squirtle is describing sounds like fish lymphocytosis. Try reading about it. Good luck with the gar.
 
Did some reading and some says it is highly contagious other sites say it is not, should i qt the fish or leave it in the tank? The bump is larger today and his whole side is red now.

No need to quarantine, considering by the time something does show, your other tank mates already are carriers. Although they may never show signs of it.

To be honest, I'm not so sure that's what your gar has. It sounds more like what the other poster was explaining which is why I mentioned it. Although it certainly could be.

In your picture, it's just hard to tell.

Thanks for the info since there is no treatment im just watching him he is getting worse and not eating now. Just gonna wait it out and see what happens. Here is a pic of what it looks like now.

Please post water perameters. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, hardness and temp. What are the tank mates?
