I did my normal 50% waterchange in my 240 last night. As is normal this time of year, I use straight cold out of the tap. With a waterchange that large it only drops the temperature a couple degrees. My 18" Koloton swam within a few inches of the cool water coming from the hose and his nose dipped, tail went straight up and he just floated to the bottom laying on his back. I reached in and moved him some and he just laid there for a bit and eventually swam off. I guess it was cold enough to shock him, but a short distance from the outlet the cold is diluted enough to not matter. I have 3 1600 GPH circulation pumps on while the water is going in so the only really cold spot is right at the hose outlet.

Yea seems like he definitely got shocked by the cold water. The water coming out of the hose is probably about 60-65 degrees so I would imagine that the immediate area around is cooler as well. At least he's ok

I always try to make the water as close to the temp in the tank as possible to avoid this, usually by letting it sit out over night room temp water is about 78 in my house in the summer, and that's usually around where my poly tank is at.

That's awesome there is no long term effect on him though, Kolotons are beautiful I would hate to lose one like that

I would say she is fine. She has eaten at least 10 Massivore in the last few minutes. Only 14 hours after being near death. What freaks me out about this is, every waterchange various fish come and check out the cool water. In 43 years of keeping fish this is a first.

i use my mixer tap and feed water at my hand temperature i.e neither warm nor cold... always done this.

at least she's still alive i'd hate to loose a fish doing my normal water changes it make me paranoid to do water changes and the water end up staying dirty lol
