was watching my pond and noticed that my male jaguar and clownknife were hanging out really close to a pit the jag had dug and sure enough both of them defending the nest together chasing off anything that gets close. has anyone ever witnessed anything like this? there are so many cichlids in there he could pair with not sure why he chooses the knifefish of all things...i guess the knifefish is female cause what i know of them is they are solitary hunters that do substrate spawn similar to cichlids.

Pics? That’s amazing (and hilarious)!
My jd and banded leporinus seem to get along, but I think it’s more of a truce due to the mutual dislike for the parrot and convict pair.
I also remember reading about a jag that was buddies with a black piranha…

I remember a post about a clown knife and an arowana one was blind and the other chewed its food for him

i had a short video clip although they mostly stopped doing the behavior once they seen me near them,,they did attack a few tank mates nearby but yea judging by the way the jag nods at the clown knife while pointing down at the pit and staying very close together id say they have formed a pair,,not sure how they even can communicate. that clownknife is hella mean,,the midevils leave it alone
